Tess Marie Mionette Holmes was born as the third child of the Holmes family. She was the first female Holmes born in the last 500 years and was by all thoughts the accident child. The oldest brother was Sherringford Holmes, and ten years later, the second child Mycroft Holmes was born. One her third childbirth it was when Mrs. Holmes found out she was with child seven years after Mycroft. She wasn't too bothered, but her husband was.  The child was born quiet, that soon would be named Tess. Growing up, both boys were known to be incredibly advanced for their age, the elder being gifted in DADA, the other being gifted in potions. Sherringford graduated and immediately took to work in the Ministry taking on site jobs. It was during one of those rebellions by muggleborns that he was killed at the age of twenty. Tess was only three when this happened and she remembers nothing of her brother except his cold blue eyes and the way he told her she was an accident. It was then only Mycroft and her, and the moment that Sherringford died, Mycroft began to take her under his wing. While their parents tended to pay him more attention, he never faltered in caring for her. Her mother tried to make up for a child's loss, not by her own love since she wasn’t much of a demonstrative person, but rather with presents. So growing up Tess had everything she needed and a lot more, and she associates gifts with love from her parents. Mycroft was the only person that offered her some kind of emotional stability, by telling her he cared for her and showing it, but protecting her and having her best interests at heart. He would whisper encouraging words, telling her that she would be a success and his support made her grow an ego and grow self-assured.

At Hogwarts she was in Slytherin, as everyone in her family was before her, and at first she was deemed too nice. Too soft for her house, too shy for her house, not ambitious enough. Her first friendship was solidified her first year at Hogwarts, with Rhian Kael. The girl seemed friendly enough, and over time they became best friends, Tess overlooking the fact that the girl was a halfblood, instead taking into account how much of an asset she was.

But despite friendship, she was meant to do more. When she got older, she realized the power of manipulation. She always did have ambition, but not enough to go out of her way to hurt someone in the process. Her father took note, and it was the first time he paid attention to her, going out of his way to actually teach her how it works to be in their family. She took kindly to it and began to work use the way of a predator: don’t just prey on anything, be selective. So she was always quiet, not one to talk a lot to people.

But her eyes tended to wander. Especially towards one boy in particular. His name was Dominic Winthrop, and he was one of those darker souls, from Slytherin. Always kept to his books ,only going out of his way to release sarcastic comments. And somehow she was like a moth to a flame. It was her sixth year when she fell in love, madly deeply in love with him. She'd never had a boy pay attention to her, and when he did, she couldn't help but be enthralled with the way he saw the world. He held her close, was her first kiss, her first dance, her first love. They meshed well together, his dark humor with her soft quips about life made her know it was meant to last. Sadly, that wasn't the case when he was forced to be engaged. At first she figured that her name weighed enough for her to get her way, but Dominic had a different idea. He told her that maybe it was for the best, and that his parents had chosen Lilian for a reason. The fact that he never fought for her shook her to the core, and with one deep kiss goodbye, her heart shattered.

She no longer believed in the idea of love. With Dominic she yearned for normalcy, they had talked endlessly about the fact that they would do after graduation. She'd chosen to become a housewife, while he would have gone to work. That wouldn't happen. Thus in her seventh year, right before graduation she got the letter for Merlin's Academy. She figured her parents would have chosen a partner for her later, but for now, she could escape her reality and concentrate on healing.
