It was the start of a new year, and that meant a refresher of the basics was required. Some would be experienced, others would be just beginning, so she felt that it would be a good starter class. While wands were generally used for combat, hand to hand was just as useful in the case of perhaps being disarmed. Scar knew this from personal experience. She also thought it'd be useful to add in some cardio and exercise to build up endurance. It wasn't always an active job, but one always had to be fit and ready, just in case.

The combat training area had been set up with punching bags and mats, ready for people of different skill levels. The mats for those that wished to practise with a partner, and the punching bags for those that wanted to practise alone or to just simply learn combat moves. She had made sure to notify the students of the appropriate gear they needed and to wear comfortable clothes that allowed movement. She was dressed in her own workout gear to demonstrate or help out if needed. She stood quietly and waited for students to arrive.

Arthur wore a short sleeved shirt, a pair of track pants and a pair of well worn sneakers. He hoped that his combat skills weren't too rusty. He was more used to jogging than he was boxing. He put his wand in a safe spot before heading out of his dorm room.

When he entered the combat training area he did a quick assessment of the room. It was all just standard combat gear, not that he had expected any differently.

"Good day professor," Arthur said. He found a place to stand while waiting for the lesson to start.

There was a new professor in Merlin's, and Brooke had been practically bouncing with excitement for their first class with her. After all, Brooke knew the witch from her Hogwarts days, and it was beyond cool to now be studying under someone she considered a friend. More than a friend, she had been one of the few people to celebrate her Hen's Night, and while that...had not gone as planned... it had been an amazing night nevertheless. Not that they ever spoke of the Muggle jail scenario, or how Brooke had made friends with the drag queen that she now texted on an occasional basis.

Dressed in shorts, a loose t-shirt, and having tied her hair up in a neat pony tail, Brooke walked to the fields, her face breaking into a huge grin as she saw the witch there. "Scarlett!" she called out, forgetting for a moment the professional setting; freckles broke out a moment later in the equivalent of a blush when it hit her, and she tried to sober up. "I'm sorry. I meant, good morning, Professor Waters." Her eyes, though, couldn't help but twinkle. "How are you?"

It had been a while since she last spoke with her friend, and she wanted nothing more than to sit down and find out what Scarlett had been up to - but now was not the time.

There was not much to be said about their new Professor. A witch, 24, and already an auror-trainer. It wasn't very remarkable to Serafina - those who had started earlier finished earlier - but she nevertheless had some small amount of respect for the witch. For a muggleborn, she was doing quite well.

Getting sweaty and dirty was not something Serafina particularly took to, but if it was required of her in order to become an auror, it was what she'd do. Following the instructions to dress appropriately, she had forgone her usual dress and settled for something more casual, not allowing herself to forget fashion in the moment.

After all, she still had an image to maintain.

Moving up to the field, she greeted the new Professor politely, and moved to stand apart from the two already there. She was not in the mood for socialising.

Amerix was in bed, cuddling her dog and trying to get the motivation to go to class. With only two hours of sleep, it was no wonder her body felt like lead. She'd reduced the dosage of the sleeping pills, her first step in trying to get better, but her body had become dependent on it. The nightmares plagued her, robbing her of sleep until her mind was too exhausted to come up with any dreams, giving her two hours of fitful sleep.

And today she had combat class.

It's as if the world hates me. Her dog whined, tail wagging and eyes beseeching her to get out of bed. When Amerix didn't move, the animal took her sleeve in her mouth and tugged with all the might her tiny body could muster. Amerix glanced at the dog she'd rescued. Tiqvah. Hope. With a sigh, Amerix got out of bed and dressed herself slowly in sweatpants and a tank top. She finger-combed her hair and gathered it into a bun on the top of her head. What used to be thick lustrous mane of dark brown hair was now dull and thinning from the lack of nutrition in her body. Her last full meal was at the pub with Gabriel. Since then, she'd only had a few bites to eat here and there but not a full meal.

After tugging on her sneakers and feeding her dog, she exited the dorms and made her way into the crisp autumn air. The moment she arrived at the training fields, her heart dropped. It would be a practical lesson. Hoping what little strength was left in her body would be enough to sustain her through the class, Amerix greeted the professor and stood to one side.

Another day, another class. Gabriel was, by now, used to the flow of things, having got into a routine, and he made his way down to the auror fields, mind replaying only one thing: his conversation with Amerix. He had seen her around classes before, but somehow or the other had never really gotten around to talking to her. He tended to stick with Brooke, a redhead that fuelled his own extroverted self with lots of conversation.

But today, he moved past her, returning her hello with one of his own, and went to stand by the witch he had only recently gotten to know. "Morning, Professor; morning, Amerix," he greeted, glancing the forementioned witch over.

She looked...exhausted, to put honestly. Drawing on his own experience with grief, he debated momentarily risking looking like a fool if he got it wrong, and then took a deep breath. This was - truth be told - more out of his comfort zone that he would've liked, but he had become an auror to save people. And if he couldn't even help a classmate, what good would he be in the field, with a stranger?

From his pocket he slipped out a simple protein bar, one that he had packed for himself should the lesson drag on longer than he had expected. He could go one day without having a snack, that much was for sure. Stepping closer to Amerix, Gabriel waited to catch her attention before silently holding it out towards her. No words were spoken; there were none to be said.

While Florrie recognised the importance of hand to hand combat, it was never something that particularly interested her. Nevertheless, she decided to make her way to the training field for the class- if there was ever a time where she was without her wand, she wouldn't want to be completely helpless.

She'd received word to dress for the class, so she rocked up in exercise tights, a tank top and a jacket- choosing comfort over everything. She saw that there were a few others there already, and went to stand with the class, greeting the professor with a small smile and going to stand with her classmates.
