| Business was very very slow today and Amerix was starting to feel boredom set in. There was only one couple and they were finishing up leaving Amerix with not much to do. It didn't look as if anybody else would come in. Of course, who wanted ice cream smack in the middle of winter unless they wanted to turn into a human popsicle? Still, Amerix was grateful for the job. It gave her something to do besides studying and studying some more. She didn't have many friends to hang out with so this was perfectly fine with her.
When the last customer left, Amerix had to content herself with stock taking, cleaning utensils, wiping tables, mopping the floor and all the other aspects of working in an ice cream parlour. Once she had made sure that there was absolutely no one else around, she plugged in her earphones and began the chores starting with cleaning up the place. Taking a cloth, she wiped down the tables. Unconsciously, she began humming and soon she was singing along with the music, enjoying the melody and the lyrics as she fell into the rhythm of wiping, washing, squeezing dry and wiping again. She was so absorbed by the work and the music that she didn't hear the tiny little bell at the door chime to signal that someone had entered the shop. |

| Daniel was finishing up the shopping for his apartment. Apparently the help had left him for two weeks to fend for himself. And no amount of Flooing the apartment landlord was going to get them back. A replacement could be made 'in a couple of days' but until then, he would have to sort himself out. Sort himself out? Merlin that made him angry.
Angrier than should really have been possible.
After managing to locate the little supermarket - and purchase a number of ready meals - Daniel was making his way back through Diagon Alley. He's paused outside the ice cream shop, despite being huddled up for the winter in a scarf and long coat, Daniel fancied some ice cream. Not to mention it would keep him out of the kitchen just a little bit longer, and Laguna Beach just might not burn down.
Entering through the door quite carefully, Dan took in the witch singing and smiled to himself. It was quite nice to see people as they really were, in all honesty. Though, it seemed she hadn't noticed him. Daniel didn't mind. He simply moved to the counter and leaned against it. She was a pretty young witch, if he looked, but he never made his ogling obvious.
So Daniel simply waited for her to notice him, not at all minding the singing or the view. |

| I've been afraid of being broken. I've laid it all out on the line, but never like this Amerix sang as her hands kept busy. Soon enough though she felt like someone was burning holes into her back. Goosebumps prickled her skin and a chill that had nothing to do with the cold slithered down her spine. Her hands stilled and she stopped singing. Everything was silent except for the music in her ears. You're just imagining things, Amerix. Get back to work she told herself. It wouldn't hurt to look right? another voice argued.
Sighing, she took out her earphones and turned around. Her heart nearly jumped out of her body when she saw the boy lounging against the counter. His presence shocked the words out of her since she wasn't expecting anybody. For a few moments, she just stood there until her instincts kicked in.
"Hi. Welcome to Florean Fortescue's. May I help you?" she greeted him, pasting a small smile on her face as she walked behind the counter. She knew a blush was growing on her cheeks. Merlin knew how long he had been standing there. Had he heard her singing? That would be so embarrassing! All she wanted to do now was dig a hole in the ground and hide there until the guy standing in front of her forgot she even existed. He was one handsome guy and she was awed by his eyes. They were a striking cold grey. Amerix was no where near ready for a romantic relationship of any sort. No, she'd vowed to protect herself and that she would do. But it couldn't hurt to admire a guy's appearance. |

| It took a while for the witch to stop what she was doing, and with the brief pause, Daniel couldn't help the small smirk that touched his lips. Almost hearing the thoughts - though obviously that was impossible unless you could use legillimency, which Daniel couldn't. Occlumency, yes, but not the art of legillimency.
"Hi. Welcome to Florean Fortescue's. May I help you?"
"Hello." Daniel replied, giving the witch a smile as she took up her position behind the counter. He turned to face her, leaning on both arms on the counter. Daniel was forward, he'd always been forward since he'd known about his liking of the female variety. The witch was blushing by this point, and that made Daniel smile to himself a little more.
"I was just looking for something to eat. Well, an ice cream really. What would a beautiful young lady like yourself suggest?" Daniel asked, purposefully over doing his flirtations. Some girls liked it, others didn't he would test the waters and see what he got in return. |

| All of Amerix's muscles were on edge. Her legs were tense, her body was tense and her breathing just a little too fast. Everything about him, his body language, his tone of voice, the look in his eyes sent warning bells screaming so loudly in her head that Amerix was sure her brain would go deaf very soon. Taylor Swift's 'I knew You Were Trouble' came to mind immediately. Wait. What?! I don't even like Taylor Swift! Her legs took a tentative step back automatically in response to his movement, her hands clasped just in front of her stomach. She felt like he'd invaded her personal space, somehow leaving her feeling like a defenseless soldier in the middle of no man's land.
Beautiful young lady? He's sounding like my father! It was true. Her father had called her that many times and hearing it again from this boy's mouth made her feel weird. She knew he was flirting with her. It was so obnoxiously obvious that it made Amerix want to scoff. Well, he won't score with her, that was for sure. Still, the phrase that was supposed to be a compliment rattled her and being naturally not much of a talker, it made her stumble and stutter her words.
"I..er..ahem..If you're looking for something...refreshing the..er..fruit sorbets are good. Something..um..rich would be the..er.. triple chocolate sensation," she finished lamely, knowing for sure that her cheeks were on fire. She could fry an egg on it if she wanted. It wasn't that she was attracted to him. Far from it! She wanted to steer clear from him. Boys like him meant trouble and she was beaten up enough as it is. No, she was just thrown off her feet at hearing that phrase and embarrassed at tripping up over her words. He might interpret it differently though and that terrified her. The last thing she needed right now was a boy chasing after her. |

| It was a moment after he said the words that Daniel realised he'd probably made for the wrong use of words. Or, so it seemed when the witch seemed to get a little up tight. Note to self, no outrageously obvious flirting with this one, Daniel thought to himself a moment later.
The witch's cheeks were flaming as she tried to explain what he might like depending on his taste. The young man simply nodded in regards to each. The sorbets sounded boring, if you asked him, and chocolate ice cream didn't always agree with him, so tripling it was perhaps not the best idea in the world for him.
"Do you have the mint flavour, with chocolate chips in it?" Daniel asked the witch, standing up a little bit now rather than leaning on the counter. "I think that's a good one. You wouldn't happen to see drinks in here too, would you?" Daniel asked, because he'd rather have a bottle of water for when he got home than drinking from the tap.
He was just that kind of person. |

| Amerix relaxed a little when he stood upright again. She hoped with all her heart that someone would walk in, glancing at the door as if that would summon human being. She hated being alone with a grown male. After what had happened to her, she would never risk her safety ever again. She'd rather err on the side of caution than go through that experience all over again. He looked young, like a student. A thought struck her. Was he studying at Merlin's Academy? She'd never seen him around before. Then again, she didn't mix with the other students much.
"Do you have the mint flavour, with chocolate chips in it?"
"Yes, we do,"Amerix replied, getting out the ice cream scoop and opening the freezer. She grabbed a cone and carefully began molding the ice cream into a neat ball. She put it firmly on the cone and turned to give it to him together with a serviette.
"There are different types of coffee and juices as well as plain water. What would you like?" Amerix responded to his question. She'd never been known for being a good conversationalist she didn't think she'd need to make small talk with this guy. |

| The relaxation of the witch was quite noticeable, and Daniel almost apologised. Almost. He wasn't quite sorry enough for that though, so instead he just gave the witch a small smile in a manner of apology.
As the witch busied herself with his order, Daniel simply watched her working, trying to think of something to say and falling somewhat short. Well, that was unlike him, wasn't it? Taking the cone, Daniel quickly hunted in his pockets, he only had Galleons, and he put five on the desk - the concept of money for the Jameson heir was not one he had, and he'd likely heavily overpaid.
The description of what they had, or rather, the choices he was given settled his nerves - who knew shopping could be so stressful. "A bottle of water too, please." Daniel told the witch with a smile. "Is this enough money?" He asked, motioning to the coins on the counter. "If it is, you can keep whatever is left." He added, with a small smile.
"For the singing." He added, mischievously, before offering the witch his free hand. "Daniel, by the way, Daniel Jameson." |

| Amerix turned to grab a bottle of water and as she turned back to the counter, her eyes widened at the five Galleons. That was way to much money for a single cone and plain water. However, looking at him, she could see that he was serious about giving so much money. I don't think I'll ever get that much tips, after today she thought to herself as she stared at the money as if she was almost afraid to touch it. But the next few words snapped her back to attention as well as summoned the blush back to her cheeks. So he had heard her singing. Oh, Merlin! That was embarrassing! No one but the bathroom walls heard her singing and Amerix wanted to bang her head repeatedly against the counter. How could she be so careless, singing in public like that?!
She took his offered hand as she replied, "Amerix Skye." She was sure she would remember him; both his name and his face. How could she not? He had said and done the most unusual things. Well, perhaps it wasn't unusual for him but it definitely was for her. |

| Perhaps he'd been a little too generous with his tip given the witch's reaction. Daniel didn't understand the theory of money, so this was all a guessing game for him on how much to hand over. Oh well, she didn't get mad so it couldn't have been too bad now, could it?
"Amerix Skye."
"Amerix..." Daniel repeated softly, testing out the name. It was an unusual name, but he liked it. Of course, that wasn't to be said out loud. The boy paused for a moment before turning back to her. "Would you like to get a drink sometime, Amerix?" Daniel asked the witch. It was forward, they'd barely spoken, but you didn't get very far with the ladies if you didn't put your neck on the line every once in a while.
"The Round Table Inn?" He added with a hopeful smile. |

| Amerix was taken aback by the offer. That was the last thing she expected from someone she just met. Her brain automatically started analysing the situation. Was he asking her out on a date? What would she say? What would he do? Did he like her? Or was he just a player? If she did take him up on the offer, she would have to make small talk and Merlin knew that she was hopeless at that. All conversation died out after a couple of minutes. It would be so awkward with just the two of them.
Perhaps if Liliana or Brooke came..hmm. Now that was a thought. And yet, what if Daniel took offense? If she didn't go she might lose a potential friend and he seemed friendly enough even if he was a tad too flirty for her liking. Well, he did say 'sometime' right? That didn't mean it would actually happen. Amerix knew plenty of people who said they should have a drink sometime and they never did. Well, if the time did come, she could plan what to do then.
"I..er..that would be nice," Amerix replied, looking down at her hands. She debated if she should ask him about his intentions but that would seem rude. Or perhaps she should ask him if she could bring a friend along.
"Um..would it be like... a date?" Amerix heard herself say. She almost slapped herself for blurting it out. So much for social skills. What would he think of her now? |

| Once again it seemed that Daniel had said the wrong thing. Wow, he'd backed off the obvious flirting, moved to more subtle gestures. Gestures that showed he wanted to get to know her rather than just... well, that wasn't overly like Daniel. Yes, he was a flirt, but he didn't mess around like that.
But she accepted a moment later, and the young man couldn't help but smile in return to her words. "Great! How... how about tomorrow? Say, seven?" Daniel asked, his tone a little bit hopeful. He didn't do the 'maybe' see you around, when he asked, he meant it. The question, however, threw Daniel off quite a bit.
Taking a lick of his ice cream cone, he considered her answer for a moment. She was shy, so it was perhaps not the best idea to scare her away. "It can be what you want it to be. I'll be at the pub on my own, you can come on your own, or you can bring a friend or two, how does that sound?" Daniel asked, trying to give her a reassuring smile. |

So he really meant what he said about getting a drink. That was rare for Amerix to see someone put an invitation into action immediately. Should she decline the offer? Say that she was busy? But that would be a lie. She could hear the hope in his tone though and even if she didn't really trust him, she knew she would feel a tug of guilt for disappointing him. She didn't have to worry about her safety. In such a public place, what could he do to her? It didn't have to be a date. It could just be two people who just met getting to know each other. Then again, she would feel better if someone did come along. It would save her from awkwardness and make it feel less like a date. Before she could ask if it was alright to bring a friend, the next words out of his mouth relieved her of that.
"Okay. Seven is good and I might bring a friend along," Amerix replied with a soft smile. "See you then."

| It had taken a little more effort than Daniel would have liked it to have, but he had, eventually secured himself a date with a very beautiful young lady. Did Daniel mind that it was probably going to be with one of the witch's friends? Not in the slightest. It would be a bit of fun, something new, and if Amerix shot him down, perhaps the other person would be interesting.
Okay, he was getting ahead of himself.
"Great, I'll see you tomorrow! Don't be late!" He told the witch, grinning slightly at the irony of himself telling someone else not to be late. With that, he headed out of the small shop, tucking in to his ice cream and heading back towards home. Well, today had been much better than he was expecting it to be - perhaps shopping wasn't quite as bad as he'd thought it was? |
