| Basics
Full name: Yeong-Gi "Lynn" Sohn Age: 18 Date of birth: April 27, 1999 Birthplace: Seoul, South Korea Current location: Merlin's Blood status: Muggleborn Occupation: Student Major: Potioneering Year in University: First
Looks
Hair style and colour: Shoulder-length with straight bangs, often put up; dyed white, naturally black. Eye colour: Dark brown, near black. Height: 5'10" (178 cm) Body type: Lithe, but flexible and relatively strong because of dancing. Dress sense: Fearless; if there is anything Lynn does not change for others it is his style: while he does tend toward more high-class items, they are simultaneously alternative and unusual. He feels no need to be limited by the imaginary restrictions of his perceived gender, accessorizing as he pleases and painting his nails quite often and wearing makeup on a regular basis.
Personality
Likes: People, being social and flirting -Lynn believes the purpose of humanity is to interact with others in any way possible, and he enjoys social interactions which place him in a favorable spot. Music, singing and dancing -Having grown up knowing that he had talent in the area, he made sure to keep at it—since he was good at it then it was enjoyable and easy, plus with Korean pop stars to copy it was even easier. Fashion -Influenced heavily by the fashion of Korean celebrities, Lynn has always loved playing around with unusual styles. Knowing what's going on -He can't stand being clueless in any situation regardless of circumstances.
Dislikes: Being mistaken for anything other than Korean (i.e. Japanese, Chinese, etc.) -Considering the antagonistic relationship between Japan and Korea in the past, this comes as no surprise; it's also a result of his pride. When people make an unnecessarily large deal of their romantic endeavors -He recognizes the necessity of relationships but never understands why people feel the need to flaunt them. Animals -They're messy, illogical, odorous, and he questions the rationality of anyone who owns a pet. He would never mistreat an animal; instead, he avoids them as often as possible.
Quirks: Spontaneous singing/dancing -If bored, he will typically start listening to music, often singing or dancing along to it regardless of where he is. Will yell in Korean if frightened suddenly
Flaws: Controlling and manipulative -While to a point his flirtatious nature and desire to remain in a favorable position are innocent, he has no self-awareness concerning limits and will often take it too far. Will unknowingly lead people on -This can present many problems if people assume Lynn is legitimately interested in them, potentially resulting in broken hearts or at least grudges. Flirts with everyone -While the presence of a wedding ring will deter him from married individuals, there's nothing stopping him from potentially flirting with people who are already taken and getting in trouble because of it.
Strengths: Realistic and objective, for the most part -Whether it be a result of his upbringing or simply a facet of his personality, Lynn is a realist and views the world as it is, often a great advantage in many circumstances. Can easily place himself in positions of favor -Though manifesting as flirting most of the time, Lynn is extremely capable of getting on almost anyone's good side by either emphasizing his own positive traits or catering to the other person. Leader -If the situation calls for it, he's capable of exuding a commanding presence and leading people effectively.
Weaknesses: Relationships -Despite his flirtatious nature, Lynn is indifferent toward romantic and sexual relationships; on the rare occasion that he does find himself in want of something deeper than friendship, he'll undoubtedly approach it in a logical manner. In rare moments he wonders why anyone would even bother with romance. Could do a lot of things but pursues what his parents deem "unstable" -Despite his parents being strict business-people, Lynn primarily prefers more free and creative pursuits such as dancing, avoiding putting much effort into anything that lacks the potential to please others. He does enjoy potioneering, though, and his parents support that. New types of food -When it comes to food, Lynn is always searching for new tastes and dishes to enjoy, trying any and all of them.
More Information
Born to a wealthy Korean couple married for the sake of strategy in the corporate realm, Lynn grew up in the hands of a nanny hired by his often absent parents. While his mother attempted to spend more time at home during his infancy, it soon became clear that that was not something she could afford to do, and by the time Lynn was three the presence of either parent was a precious rarity. With his parents as significant figures in business, there was no expense spared when it came to Lynn—aside from his parents' time—he was given lessons in piano, dance, singing, language, given only the best, most comfortable clothing and the finest nannies; whenever he had the chance he would insist on listening to or watching Korean pop stars, infatuated with the concept and often copying them. Unfortunately, the absence of his parents, their loveless marriage, and the regular exchanging of caretakers resulted in him adopting a skewed view of the process of forming proper, healthy relationships.
Once Lynn came of age to be schooled his parents made the unanimous decision to hire the best tutor they could possibly find—obviously they would never consider sending their only child to a private school, let alone a public school, despite him showing no inclination toward conventional education. It was at that time that Lynn began displaying minimal, almost unnoticeable indications of his magic capabilities, though his parents ignored any and all reports from the nannies. Finally, during a visit from his mother, Lynn fell down a small flight of stairs. After rushing him to the hospital out of fear, both of them were surprised to discover he was completely unharmed—there was hardly even a scrape on him.
Regretfully, the lack of love between his parents on top of their flooded schedules eventually created a divide between them, and his father began having an affair. A full year passed before his mother discovered, but rather than expose the scandal and ruin the both of them—along with any chance Lynn had of succeeding them—she remained quiet. Lynn, nine at the time, sided with his mother, unable to understand his father's motives. Barely six months passed before their marriage fell apart internally, and following a particularly harsh argument, Lynn's mother made the decision to move to England, both for business and because she could no longer handle remaining quiet while around Lynn's father. They decided not to divorce officially for the sake of appearance, but they were certainly separate in their private lives.
While the completely different culture in England did shock Lynn, he was thankful that his parents had had him learn English when he was younger, and after a short time he and his mother were settled into a suitable home while she adjusted to the new business environment. Lynn had new tutors, though he found that the pop culture paled in comparison to that of Korea, and thus he refused to let go of the stars he idolized, using the internet to keep track of everything. Barely a year after arriving in England, the special messenger from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry came to explain that Lynn was actually a wizard and capable of magic—his mother recalled the incident when he was younger, though she was still skeptical. Thankfully, she relented and gave her permission for Lynn to attend Hogwarts with the condition that he promise to continue his language and business studies during each summer.
Once again Lynn was immersed in an entirely new culture, one that brought knowledge and immense curiosity on his part; by the time his first year began he was more than ready, finding a few friendly people on the train who elaborated on the more subjective parts of the magic world that couldn't be found in books—on top of that, he began to go by Lynn for the sake of pronunciation. It came as somewhat of a surprise that Lynn was sorted into Slytherin, the Sorting Hat knowing his underlying motivations and ignoring his reservations; despite how nerve-wracking his placement was, however, he never stopped being thankful for the time period in which he was born, having read about and been terrified by the persecution Muggleborn wizards and witches like him had faced in the past.
One could say that what followed was overcompensation for his blood-status and house placement, but regardless of perception Lynn went around making friends with whomever he could persuade to like him—it was there that his upbringing failed him, as he had never properly learned how to make friends, so at first he attempted to do whatever necessary to please others. By his second year he realized how naive he had been and changed tactics, still putting himself in favorable positions, but in a more strategic and manipulative way.
It was at Hogwarts that Lynn began to experiment with makeup, hair, and other accessories—he found that the uniform was too drab and limiting for his tastes, and took every chance to add his own flair for even a small bit of individuality. And while his peers began to mature and whisper about people they deemed attractive and would date, Lynn failed to grasp the need for dating or the "strange urges" that supposedly came with puberty. He began to worry that others would perceive him as weird, even broken, so he hid his confusion and disgust and attempted to blend in, joining the crowd and hoping that the farce was at all convincing. He took part in the discussions as much as he could, perhaps too much, and though he enjoyed the preliminary activity of flirting, he still wanted no part of what typically followed; at one point he tried dating a clever Ravenclaw from his year, convinced that trying it out would fix him. Nothing changed, and he barely managed to salvage an awkward friendship from the failed relationship.
Unfortunately for Lynn, his method of friendship failed him as his "friends" matured and realized they no longer wanted to follow him around, leaving only a pair of closer friends by his seventh year. Overall he had excelled in his classes and passed his O.W.L.s and chosen N.E.W.T.s with flying colors, likely a result of the work ethic instilled by his parents. Following graduation he received his letter from Merlin's and managed to convince his mother to let him continue the path of wizardry instead of business, vowing to himself that he would be a more legitimate friend to those he met in the future.
