Rhian pulled on a light jacket and grabbed her messenger bag from her desk chair. Her roommate, Ariel, seemed to be out doing her own thing now, maybe checking out the campus as she'd mentioned on their first meeting. There were only a few days left to do so before the entire castle would be filled with students and professors.
But, until then, there was a bit of quiet around the dorms that Rhian fully intended on taking advantage of. There was a small courtyard on one side of the dorms, where there were some benches and tables that you could sit at. There wasn't really anyone around, but she'd been scoping out a spot with the perfect amount of shade and sun for days now.
The bench she snagged for herself was long enough for her to stretch out on, so she kicked off her shoes and did just that. There were a few benches around hers, but this one was perfect. With her bag tucked under her head, for a pillow, she pulled out a used book on dragons from the east. It wasn't a required reading, but she'd seen it in a sad little bin in the back of the store and couldn't not buy it.
As she read, she absentmindedly started humming. It was a habit of hers that helped her concentrate, even though she couldn't tell afterward what it was she was humming, exactly. Losing herself in the book, she let the day pass her by.
