Melody had walked around the Academy after unpacking. She had wanted to formalize herself with the Academy grounds again. It was much easier to do this then it had been at Hogwarts, no doors that weren't really there or moving staircases here. Hogwarts had been disorienting even after she figured out the pattern of the moving staircases.

No Peeves to watch out for either. Or Bloody Baron to make her jump out of her skin. (She hadn't heard of the Baron actually hurting any of the students but it was a shock to see him phase through the walls.)

Her exploration had led her to the Art Room. She wasn't sure why there was an Art Room, since Merlin's didn't offer any art courses. But it was a lovely room with the right amount of lighting and art materials already laid out.

Of all the places Lynn had seen around campus, by far one of the most empty yet still comfortable places was the art room—there were no endless flights of stairs to climb, it was out of the way, plus from what he knew there wasn't even an art class offered.  After making sure that he had visited every corner of the university he returned there, certain that it would be the perfect place to either dance or simply relax; while exploring he had listened to music and identified the song he wanted to dance to most.

Upon entering the art room, though, he was met with the sight of someone there already, a girl he didn't recognize—not a surprise given he didn't know anyone yet.  Still, he greeted her with an acceptable level of friendliness, "Oh, hi," he flashed a smile, "I didn't expect anyone to be here; I'm Lynn." He didn't hesitate to walk up to her, observing her features and reaction, seeing if he could determine what year she was in or what major she had by looks alone.

"Melody," she said. "Neither did I." Not that she minded that there was. Lynn. It was a nice name.

She noticed him observing her and observed him back. Nothing about him stroke her as familiar, his sense of fashion was certainly unique. Some people were able to pull off anything, something that might have more to do with attitude than clothes. She'd never had that much confidence.

Must be eighteen or so, Melody thought. She couldn't find any clues as to his major. She doubted her outfit screamed Potioneer-in-Training but she wasn't sure.

"Are you new here?" He must be if he was as young as she had guessed he was. Maybe she had never seen him before because he was in a different major. Dragon Training or something. She was sure that Curse Breaking that had been dropped from the curriculum a while back.

"Nice to meet you, Melody," he replied, offering a hand to shake.  Names as blatantly themed as Melody were relatively uncommon, yet conveniently easy to remember—already Lynn had invented a memory device lest he forget the witch's name.  It suited her, he supposed, a regular name for what appeared to be a regular person, though he would not act upon any instantaneous judgments he made before they were confirmed; that method never seemed to work properly for anyone and held the potential for social disaster.

Lynn nodded to confirm her guess, "First year Potioneer in-training; and you?" It was unlikely she was an Auror in-training—she hardly looked the part—which left three options, each of which were equally likely given that she was undeniably older than him.  For all he knew they had the same major and would therefore have the same classes; it was always convenient to know people, though, in and out of one's major and social circle.  If she was in Potioneering then there was no question as to what Lynn would discuss—perhaps she too enjoyed experimenting, or on the flip-side, preferred the traditional approach; regardless of perspective, if she was in the same major, Lynn could converse with her for hours about the subject.

"Same to you Lynn," Melody replied as she shook his hand. She wasn't sure if Lynn was a common name or not. It didn't sound like it would be too uncommon but she was used to how odd wizard and witch names could get. She let go of his hand and thought back to what she had learned about assessing someone's personality from a handsake.

"Fourth year Potioneer-in-Training," she answered easily. Now that she thought about it he didn't look like Aurors-in-Training usually did, he looked too obvious for them. He didn't look very tough either, but then they mostly didn't look scary. "Guess I'll be seeing you around the classes then," she added cheerfully.

Melody leaned back against one of the tables and looked around the room a bit. Art was a more of a muggle major she supposed. Still it would have been interesting to see a wizarding world approach to it. All those moving portraits back at Hogwarts, she could only imagine teaching someone to create something so full of life. They probably had the right paint here but she had never been much of a painter.

"Do you draw?" Melody asked. "Paint? Or anything?" Art was a broad term really, there was a lot of leeway in it. Perhaps Lynn experimented with different types of arts, he looked like the type to. But she wouldn't assume everything off of looks.
