| Seth inspected himself in the mirror. Much to his disgust, he had to take Serafina out for a nice dinner to keep up the farce that was their relationship. They would have to have polite conversation, loving glances, some physical touch, he'd have to maker her laugh and smile, maybe dance, and worse of all, he had to wear a suit. Of course he'd worn suits before to Pureblood functions and he would readily admit that he looked rather dashing but he hated the formality of it all and not for the first time, questioned why he accepted the woman's offer. Right, it was for freedom. But it wasn't really freedom, was it, when he had to work to keep a relationship he did not want? It was more like transferring to a different prison.
It was easy to recall the conversation that started all of this in motion. And the dress she was wearing during said conversation. It was hard to ignore the amount of skin Serafina had shown, something he hadn't expected from her. No doubt, she would definitely wear something more modest for the dinner he'd planned. Pity. She had a great body. And a sharp mind and tongue to match. She was an intriguing specimen of a Pureblood female, unusual in all she did and said. Then again, Seth wasn't a cookie cutter Pureblood himself, though he squeezed himself into the mold when needed.
He eyed himself one last time in the mirror before impulsively deciding to change his tie to cut off a bit of the formality. Serafina might lecture him for it using choice words but he couldn't careless. He checked his watch. Perfect. Taking out his wand, he apparated to her house, arriving punctually. He rang the doorbell and waited, deciding to treat her like he would one of the other girls he dated. Not the seducing and sleeping part but the dinner and being suave and charming part. It would be difficult if she couldn't keep her tongue in check but he wasn't going to be the one to ruin their plans of a fake relationship.

| It wasn't too difficult to see that the oldest Richardson was pleased with herself; it showed in the permanent half-smirk that graced her lips as she moved around the house, the posture in which she held herself, and the glint in her eyes whenever Seth's name was mentioned or hinted at. Simply put, Serafina knew she had managed to corner the man - boy - into a position where he would be more easily manipulated. The price had been rather steep, but calculated risks were something she handled well, and this had paid off in more ways than she could've imagined.
She lay in her bath for slightly longer than she should have, but time wasn't an issue; she wasn't in a rush to make herself presentable to her date for that evening. After all, she'd already scored him. What more was there to do? Appearances were for the sake of others, and that was the only reason Serafina bothered to bypass all the dresses she wanted to wear, and instead settled on something that displayed her family colour.
Sitting curled up on the couch with a book as she waited for Seth to arrive, she wasn't disappointed; he came on time, and her maid opened the door, directing him to the lounge where she was seated. "Seth, darling, let me just finish this chapter, okay?" she told him, keeping her tone sweet and free of any hidden connotations. Her eyes skimmed over the last few sentences in a matter of seconds, and she closed the book with a smile on her face.
This was going to be fun.
Standing up, she smoothed the folds of her dress down, watching his expressions closely for any telltale signs of what he thought. "Shall we?" she asked, offering him her arm with a smile. |

| It didn't surprise Seth when he saw Serafina lounging on the couch in the room he was led to. It also didn't surprise him when she didn't stand up immediately but instead posed a question they both knew was rhetorical. He did not miss what she was trying to do here. She wanted control, wanted to let him know that she was in charge and he was merely a pawn in an elaborate game. Well, two could play at that game. He'd just have to seize the next time opportunity presented itself.
As any polite gentleman would do, he waited until she'd closed the book when what he really wanted to do was to snatch it away from her. "Some might consider it rude that the first words out of a person's mouth is not one of greeting," he said coolly, keeping a polite smile on his face. "Fortunately, I do not take offense easily." He allowed himself a smirk at that last statement. If she was trying to rile him up, it wouldn't work. Unlike popular opinion, he could keep a cool logical head on his shoulders.
He let nothing show on his face and in his eyes as she smoothed her dress down. He wouldn't deny that she looked stunning in her gown but he wouldn't give her the satisfaction of saying it out loud. Red suited her and the dress showed off her shoulders - and what nice shoulders they were, too. And again, he wouldn't say that to her.
Merely raising one eyebrow, since it was usually the male who offered the arm and not the female - yet another sign that his dear girlfriend wanted to hold the reins of the relationship - he smirked a little before replying. "We shall."
He took out his wand and in a moment, they were standing outside the doors of one of the poshest restaurants int he area. "Reservation under Corbett," he said curtly to the person manning the front desk. Keeping Serafina on his arm, he followed the waiter and like he was trained to do, allowed her to sit first before taking his own seat. He scanned the menu and waited for her to place her order before placing his.
"Add a bottle of your best red wine please," he added. "Thank you."
Seth wasn't entirely without manners. He knew all the rules and social etiquette required of his blood. That didn't mean he was inclined to demonstrate his knowledge in his actions. Rules were made for the sheer pleasure of breaking them after all. It was always so boring to do what everyone else did. Now, time for some conversation. Polite conversation.
"How was you day, my dear?" he asked, surprising himself when he heard the sincerity in his tone. |
