More Information
Madison's primary caregiver has always been her mother, Lucille, who raised her in a small yet charming two-bedroom apartment in the suburbs of Lyon. Her father Andrea left the family when she was three years old - her parents had found their different backgrounds irreconcilable, neither of them feeling quite at home in the other's world. Maddie got to see her father on occasion and she knew he was a wizard, however up until her 11th birthday she lived as a muggle in the muggle world, went to a regular primary school, and didn't know much about that part of herself. She was close to her mum and loved seeing her dad when he came to visit, especially since he would take her on interesting trips all over the country and even the rest of Europe. On mutual agreement of her parents he never took her to places significant to the wizarding world or even practiced magic in front of her - however as Maddie got older it soon became apparent that she possessed magical talents of her own. Her dad was excited to notice the little accidents common in magical children, her mother a little worried. She didn't want magic to drive a wedge between her and her daughter the way it had with her former husband. Of course she made sure Madison didn't notice this concern, and when the invitation letter to Beauxbaton's arrived they celebrated with tea and macaroons - Maddie's favorite.
Learning about magic strengthened Madison's bond with her father. During the holidays he would take her on camping trips, they'd fly their broomsticks together and he'd take her to see all the important monuments of wizarding history in France. Of course she would also go home to her mum, and her mum's new boyfriend: Lucien. In her first four years of attending Beauxbatons, Madison did incredibly well in school. During her fifth year she started struggling with her self-image. She hadn't made a lot of friends due to her shy nature. By now friendships and social cliques had formed and with her rusty social skills, interaction with her peers seemed impossible beyond brief conversations and the occasional study group. The other students weren't mean to her - they just didn't seem to notice her. This was also around the time boys and girls in her year started liking and dating each other and while Madison didn't have much of an interest in boys, she felt insecure and unwanted being left out of the process.
Her relationship with her parents suffered as well - her mom loved her and tried her hardest to be involved and take an interest in Maddie's life at school - but she didn't understand anything about magic and what it was like to be a witch. Maddie's dad on the other hand, didn't seem interested in anything other than their shared magical abilities. And then there was Lucien, who, in Maddie's eyes, had come and replaced her the moment she'd moved away to Beauxbatons.
Madison became reclusive and grumpy both at school and at home. During her sixth year her school performances dropped quite drastically and teachers, who had seen promise of a bright future for this girl, worried about her even passing her NEWTS at all. Luckily when the time came, she managed to pull herself together and she did outstandingly well at her final exams. Her mood also improved near the end of the school year as her time at Beauxbatons came closer to an end. She wasn't sure yet what she wanted to do next, but she wasn't thrilled at the idea of attending uni in France, alongside the majority of her old classmates. The invitation to Merlin's came as a wonderful surprise - not just because of the university's academic prestige, but also because of the change of scenery. Madison is looking forward to a new start in England: a chance to reinvent herself, discover her independence and maybe a more adventurous side of herself - and hopefully make some real friends.
