Quirks:
- Devin is what one could call a typical ‘goodie two-shoes’. He obeys all the rules given to him, even if he doesn’t believe in them for himself. That is to say, he will follow what someone in higher authority says even if it goes against what his own morals are.
- He tends to tap his foot a lot whenever he is impatient
- Devin also has a habit of interrupting people to get them to hurry up with their talking if he feels like they are rambling.
Flaws:
- He doesn’t forgive people easily, or, even if he does, he pretends to still be angry at them for days if not weeks.
- Devin tends to be very prideful, and it hurts him to find out he has been wrong; he would go into a rage and sulk for anywhere between a few hours to days, depending on how severe the blow was.
- Since Devin is too afraid to stand up to his parents, he tends to act out with people he doesn't like in a way of exerting his own dominance, and to make himself feel better. However, his instinct to follow rules goes against this and he usually becomes very guilty about it. As such, he is constantly in a battle with his conscience and his desire to be 'top dog'.
Strengths:
- Strong-willed; Devin will stand up for what he believes in and hardly ever sways from his positioning. His parents are among the very rare exceptions to this.
- Quidditch; this is quite a given, considering it is one of his few hobbies. He has a natural talent for flying, and fast reflexes, making him an excellent seeker.
- Potions; although he hates what he is doing, Devin is honestly good at this.
- Non-verbal magic; he was trained to be as such, although wandless has never been something he was able to do.
- Being direct and to the point; Devin is able to do this very well, getting across exactly what he needs or what should be done in as few words as possible and very clearly.
- Loyal to his closest friends; he will stand up for those he cares about and fight tooth and nail, but it's not exactly common to be one of these close friends.
Weaknesses:
- His parents; while he is able to stand up for many, many things, he is not able to tell his parents that he hates what he is doing and would rather be doing something else. As such, he is stuck doing something he loathes because he cannot bring himself to argue against their decision.
- Working with others; Quidditch is the only exception to this. Devin would much rather work by himself than, as he would say, with ‘idiots who end up not doing what they are supposed to’.
- The whole idea of love; he doesn’t believe in it whatsoever, and thinks it is but a mere illusion.
- ‘Heart to heart’ conversations; being open is something Devin has never really been.
- Small-talk; Devin is unable to do this to save his life. He is not a talker, and cannot converse with anyone outside getting across what is needed for work or making plans.
- Listening; while he is unable to keep up conversation, he also cannot listen to people when they begin to ramble, especially if it is somebody he doesn't know well or doesn't care about.
More Information
Devin was raised with nannies and the like, seeing his parents daily but never truly being raised by them. As stingy as his parents were, nannies were never given high pay, and as such, Devin was not given much affection from them; they did their duty and nothing more. Mostly due to this, Devin grew up not believing in love, coupled with the fact that he was raised knowing he was going to have to eventually have his pick of Pureblood women that were deemed suitable for him; not wanting to do this, he asked his parents to choose for him, escaping the responsibility of having to decide for himself.
Sorted into Hogwarts, he surprised everyone by being the first Brennham to enter Ravenclaw - as far as his parents knew, past family members had been placed in either Slytherin or Gryffindor; they themselves were both in the former. What Brennham didn't tell them - or anyone, for that matter - was that he had received a Hat Stall, and picked his house instead of becoming a Snake. He thrived in his house, very quickly gaining reputation as one of the smartest students in his entire year. His parents were thrilled, bragging about their gifted son at every function they attended. What they didn't know was that Devin was growing to love Quidditch, after one flying lesson during which they tossed around a Quaffle for fun.
The fact that he had the latest broom helped, and soon he was hanging around a bunch of older Gryffindors and playing mock games with them. This is when he discovered his other talent - he had extremely fast reaction times, and was an ideal seeker. During his second year he was convinced to try out for the Ravenclaw team, but before his first game, his parents stepped in and made him quit. They wanted Devin to focus on studies, not 'waste' time with a useless sport. Devin spent a few months trying to convince them, even going so far as to using the money route, saying that a top Quidditch player got more than any job would; this didn't work, and his ideas were firmly and strongly shut down.
Not daring to disobey them, Devin shifted his focus back to textbooks and exams, now hating everything he did. In his spare time, when he was sure his parents wouldn't find out, he played with his friends, always taking the part of seeker. The years came and went, and Devin graduated with top marks in everything. Upon receiving the letter from a black crow one evening, his parents were more than delighted, and allowed him to put off marrying just yet to focus on studying. Having pointed him in the direction of Potioneering, as it was the subject that he had gotten highest for, Devin parent’s quite literally gave him no choice other than to go. However, he managed to convince them to let him take a gap year during which he took a break from all studies and felt like himself for the first time in what felt like forever.
