| The irony of it all, as he saw it, was the fact that his arrival was on Friday afternoon, just after classes ended - this meant that despite him having had everything organised and packed in such a way that he could jump into lessons immediately, he had the entirety of the weekend to get organised. By Friday night, James had unpacked and stored everything neatly, leaving him with two days of freedom to explore the castle and get to know his way around. The first thing he did was approach all his Professors to get notes on what he missed, and Saturday was spent catching up on work and studies. It wasn't too hard for him; potions was never too tricky a subject in his eyes, and the Auror work had not been anything particularly difficult.
Sunday morning came along with a promise of sunshine and good weather. Debating between going to the nearby town and staying at the castle, he finally decided on the latter, wanting the opportunity to meet as many people as possible. Taking advantage of the weather - which he knew would soon turn cold and dreary - he made his way down to the pool for a swim.
To his surprise, he found it empty, devoid of any other people. Maybe it's too early for them, he thought, throwing his towel onto the nearest chair and stripping down to his trunks. Not bothering with the showers (nobody was there to enforce that rule, anyway) he didn't opt for the slow entry, instead diving headfirst into the pool. The water was colder than he anticipated, but not at chilly as some of the other pools he had been to, and at least the water was fresh, not salt like some were - those he hated with a passion, because if he didn't wear goggles, they stung his eyes.
Since there was nobody with whom to communicate or chat with, James began doing his laps, remembering what he had been told about the first Auror lesson he had (thankfully) missed. Although considering himself to be fairly sporty, he knew he could always improve, and as of now, he was planning a strict exercise plan for himself to follow. 6 minutes and 45 seconds he had been told - the length of time their Professor had taken to complete the course, while the students had taken at least double that. For James, it would have been painful to go through, being beaten by a man twice his age, and then having his mistakes publicly announced and analysed. Maybe Merlin was working in his favour this time.
Just finishing his twenty-fifth lap, he paused for a short break, casually pulling himself out from the water to grab his water bottle. It was only then that he realized someone else was there.

| After her first week at M.A.E Thana needed more than anything to clear her head properly. Her father had been given his time and she had to accept that, so early on Sunday morning Thana left her dorm and went to the pool. Taking a quick shower before changing into her one piece. Then she started by stretching a little bit, before going to the poolside. She walked to the pool and saw someone else was already there, she was a bit surprised but didn't mind .
Instead of disturbing the man Thana sat and waited, she was polite enough to let him do his laps undisturbed. It's how she liked to swim anyway, she kept stretching her arms out while she waited for him to finish. .
" Mind if I join you?" She asked the man kindly when he finally took a break. |

| Looking at the witch, he raised an eyebrow. Had she been watching him the entire time? That would definitely have been awkward, but James was used to stares and shrugged it off. The pool was definitely big enough for many people to share, so he wondered about the redundancy of the question asked. Still, different witches had different ways of flirting - if she was flirting, he wasn't exactly sure.
"And what if I said no?" he replied casually, moving over to the table and grabbing his bottle and twisting open the lid. Honestly, if there was one think that irked him it was politeness when it wasn't called for.; the pool was a public place, not a private thing he owned.
Gulping down half the amount of water, he closed the lid and started back towards the water. At the edge, he paused and glanced over his shoulder. "If you don't want to come in, by all means stay outside," he added, tone flat and without emotion.
Diving back into the water, he resisted an eye-roll as he continued his laps. It did occur to him that he was being rude, but in all honestly he didn't care. In his mind, it wasn't bullying - there was no physical or emotional pushing around. After all, stupid questions did not need serious answering.

| [ooc understood ] Thana listened to the man speak, someone was certainly on his period that was for certain. Still she shrugged it off, " Sorry, usually social interactions call for politeness. If you said no I wouldn't care and would still go in." She answered, doing just that. She stood up and walked a few laps away before elegantly diving in and beginning her laps, if he was happy to ignore her then Thana was happy to ignore him. Swimming her laps Thana felt calmness take over her as she pushed herself at a fast pace without any signs of slowing, for every one lap the boy did she did two, and continued at the pace without tiring. Her technique was honed to perfection, growing up as a water baby did that. Also she regulated her heart so she didn't have to breath as much while she did her laps. The man seemed contented to so his own thing and Thana hers. Her silver scars shone in the water while she swam , not enough for anyone but her to notice. Finally after fifty laps she took a break, coming to a stop and taking a small sip of her water bottle. The morning air felt good to breath in, and she much preferred to swim in fresh water like this over salt water. She stretched a few more times before looking over as the boy came to the same end of the pool as her but said nothing. |

| "Sorry, usually social interactions call for politeness. If you said no I wouldn't care and would still go in."
"Then there is no need for politeness," he replied curtly, shaking his head to himself. Honestly, people nowadays had no common sense. What was the point of asking if you only wanted one answer, and were going to ignore any other? Pushing out these thoughts as he continued his laps, he started making a mental list of things to do after his swim.
When he felt the disturbance in the water, indicating someone had finally joined him, he tilted his head to the side to glance at the witch. She was going so fast, it made him smile a little. Was she trying to prove herself to him or something? There was quite honestly no need for such measures; he was already on edge with the witch, and her swimming was not going to change anything. He debated on picking up speed to either match hers or overtake her, but decided against it, instead wanting to focus on pacing himself out - going fast was something he already knew he could do, and besides, he saw no point in showing off to a girl he didn't care about.
Stopping his count after 25, he just continued on and on until he felt his muscles screaming before hoisting himself out. There was no point in stopping when you weren't tired; that never built stamina. Stopping at the edge, he submerged himself for a few moments to calm him breathing, letting the air out slowly and watching the bubble disappear as they touched the surface before coming back up for air and repeating the process. He spent a few minutes doing this, until he felt his heart rate even out.
Hoisting himself out, he walked briskly towards his items and grabbed his towel, wiping his face dry. |

| For twenty more laps Thana kept up her deadpan pace, before feeling satisfied and pulling herself out in one easy, swift movement and grabbing her towel. She showed no sign of any fatigue, and reached for her drink bottle. Taking another small sip before looking subtly around, the mysterious boy gathering his stuff. She wanted to say something but didn't really know what, and as she sat and dried herself off her silvery scars and necklace gleaming in the morning sun.
" Excuse me for asking, but what's your major?" Thana finally asked, turning to look at him as she said it. She doubted it would be potions, so it was either going to be Dragon Trainers or Auror as she knew he wasn't in her major. " I'm Thana by the way, Thana Semele. I'm guessing that your an Auror in training." she said, speaking bluntly. He suited the profile, cold, direct and blunt. |

| [OOC: they let me join their thread. Thanks you two.]
Deciding to make the most of the weather while it was still nice and having finished unpacking Arthur made his way to the pool. He had made sure to shower first before going over the swimming pool. There didn't seem to be any pool staff around but he thought he better not risk it.
When he got to the pool he noticed that two people were already there. Well it was a public place and hardly a surprise that he wasn't the only one who thought this was nice weather for a swim. He went over to the pool and hoped he wasn't interrupting anything.
"Hello," he greeted them. Now that he was closer he thought that he recognized the girl. He searched his head for where he had met her before and then he realized the ball. It was hard to tell now that they were out of their masks. He wondered if she recognized him. He must look different wearing swim shorts, his hair no longer slicked back and without a mask to cover up his face.

| Instead of leaving, James sat himself down on the pool deck chair and leaned back, grabbing the book he had brought and opening it to the folded page; he always lost bookmarks and this was the next best solution. A Muggle fiction book, it was set in the era of World War Two and was about a set of children, tweens, brought in to aid the British spies. Very unbelievable - for surely even Muggles weren't that dumb as to make children fight - it was nevertheless a light and amusing read.
He had just reached chapter 24, when the plan of the main characters was just about to kick off and the real action began, when he heard a voice begin to speak. Nobody else was there, and so it was obvious that the witch from before was addressing him. With a soft sigh, he folded the corner of the page and closed the book, waiting for her to finish before answering her.
"Yes, I am an auror in training, Thana," he answered curtly. Should I give my name? he wondered. After all, she had given him hers. But what use would it be? The witch was obviously not someone he would want to get to know better; she was too boring, too transparent for James' liking. He enjoyed getting to know people for who they were, not have everything thrown at him during their first meet.
Before he had a chance to reply - what to reply, he still didn't know - someone else entered and James didn't bother with a greeting. It seemed that University was exactly the same as Hogwarts: full of annoying people not worth getting to know. Hopefully he'd find some he would actually like to befriend soon, or it would be a dull term indeed.
Standing up and slipping on his shirt, he slung his towel over his shoulders and tucked the book under his arm. While originally planning on making new friends, all James wanted now was some peace and quiet to finish his book, and not have to deal with people who thought they were oh-so-grand and oh-so-amazing-at-everything. Without so much as a goodbye, he left, and headed outside, towards the Sapphire lake to finish up his book. |

| Arthur wasn't sure why the man had left looking so annoyed. Maybe he just wasn't social. It didn't really matter. At least Thana hadn't left as well, it was nice to see her again.
"Hey, umm do you remember me?" he asked her. "We met at the ball." He shifted a bit awkwardly from foot to foot. It was going to rather awkward if she said she had no idea who he was. Maybe saying hi hadn't been a good idea but he could hardly take it back now.
He took a moment to look around the pool as he waited for her to answer. Plenty of room to do laps. The water certainly looked inviting. He wondered why there weren't more people here, maybe they were all busy unpacking. Realizing she might think he had decided to ignore her, Arthur looked at Thana again. |

| "Hey, umm do you remember me?"
Thana looked up as she heard a new voice speak and looked at the boy and nodded, " I do believe you were my mystery blonde haired dance partner for the ball." Thana answered him, her silver scars catching the sunlight. " Though you do look different in shorts " she commented before dangling her feet in the water again and smiling, watching as the other boy had walked off. " I don't think he liked me too much." She said to Arthur, smiling softly to herself.
The memory of the ball was quite a happy one for Thana, she had quite enjoyed dancing with a partner that could actually dance. And Arthur had been just that, the perfect, friendly dance partner. " Are you swimming or sunbaking?" Thana asked him, preparing to go back into the water.

| "Though you look different in shorts."
Arthur chuckled at that. He was glad she remembered him. He thought about what she said next, maybe he didn't like either of them much. After all he had left after Arthur appeared.
"Well its his lose," Arthur replied. He sat down on the edge of the pool. "Its nice to see you again." The ball felt like a very long time ago now. He hadn't really made a lot of friends since then. But the year wasn't over yet. "So what have you been up to lately?" He dangled his feet in the pool as he waited for her to answer. |
