More Information
Wendyll had, what most people would consider, a rather boring upbringing. His parents were muggles, and he was very much the same. Unlike most young witches and wizards, he didn’t have strange outbursts of magic to give him some sort of hint towards what was to come. The only strange occurrences around young Wendyll was when one of the family members, or his few friends, would get hurt. He’d gotten it into his head that he was going to be a doctor, just like his mom. Trying to be helpful, he’d insist on bandaging up any minor cut or scrape, and somehow, what would normally take a week to heal was mostly gone by morning.
The invitation letter from Hogwarts was a shock, but his parents somehow allowed him to go. There’d been a woman from the Ministry that came to visit, delivering it personally as Wendyll was the first in his family. Everything after that day ran rather smoothly. He went to school, was sorted into Hufflepuff, and proceeded to live a generally un-extraordinary student life. General wand work was a bit tricky for him, but he did very well with Potions and Herbology. Things that took more practical thinking and physical labor.
As he moved through the usual hardships of adult life, he did face one issue. He wasn’t like all the other boys. It didn’t take him long to figure out that he was attracted to his guy friends…as well as girls. Wendyll didn’t make a big show about it, but knew that it was a harder idea to accept than those who strictly liked one gender or the other. Finding it hard to be accepted, after a few nasty instances with people he thought were his friends, he decided that maybe he wasn’t meant to have long term relationships.
Graduating, he somehow got accepted into Merlin’s Academy. A part of him wondered if his professors had put in a good word for him, as he’d apprenticed with the resident school nurse in his last year. Merlin knew his grades weren’t amazing. Either way, he entered the Healer program, and for the first time in his life, he felt completely at home. He made a few friends, which made graduating and entering St. Mungo’s easier.
He was doing well there, climbing the proverbial ladder in the departments. A couple years into being there, he was offered a rather high up position in the Spell Damage area of the hospital. Wendyll was happy for the opportunity. While he hadn’t been the greatest at the spells that usually seemed to land his patients in their beds, he knew more about them than the casters usually did, which is all that mattered.
Everything was looking up for the young wizard, professionally speaking, until it wasn’t. A young man came into his ward this past year. His mind was addled beyond anything Wendyll or any of the other Healer’s had ever seen. Nothing they tried seemed to help. After a month tending to the boy, trying to keep him comfortable as they searched for cures, Wendyll finally hit on the cause. The boy, freshly graduated from Hogwarts, had been on the receiving end of a long line of Obbliviate’s. So much so, that they’d wiped all traces of memory in the boy’s mind. Anything they would have normally tried for a victim of just one occurrence was hopeless.
The realization that there was no cure hit him hard. His boss gave him a few weeks off, overdue vacation, he said. But when it came time to return to work, Wendyll couldn’t walk those halls without remember the vacant look on the boy’s face. He was asked to take a leave of absence. Maybe do something different for a little while. It was then that he received a letter about an opening at Merlin’s Academy. It wasn’t his first choice, but maybe it could help him.
